How to Create If-Then Rules in Infinity

If you’re a fan of ‘If This Then That’ automations, then you’ll be happy to hear that you can create them in Infinity, as well.

The way to create If-Then rules is to use the trigger ‘Attribute Value Changes’ and then combine it with one of the actions offered in the drop-down menu.

So, how would this work exactly?

In order to get started, you’ll need to click on the Automations button found next to the Board Manager button.

In the pop-up window, you’ll be able to decide whether you want to build an automation from scratch or select one of the templates we created. If you opt for a template, you’ll just need to click on the drop-down menu next to the search bar, and select ‘If This Then That’.

If you decide to create an automation from scratch, just click on the ‘Create Automation’ button. This is what we’ll be explaining in the rest of the tutorial.

After clicking on ‘Create Automation’, you’ll first need to name your automation. It can be anything that you want, but it’s necessary to give it a name. Right beneath the name box, you’ll also see a sentence that will change as you change your triggers and actions.

Next, click on ‘Add a Trigger’ and then select the trigger ‘Attribute Value Changes’. A drop-down menu will appear below it, where you’ll have a list of all the attributes in your board. You’ll need to select one—in our case, it will be 'Status’.

Now, let’s add a condition to our automation, as well. Click on ‘Add Condition’ and in the field ‘Where’ choose ‘Status’ once more. If you’re familiar with Infinity, this is where you’ll notice that this part works almost the same as our filters.

We’ll say that the ‘Status’ is ‘To Review’.

So, now we have half of our sentence, i.e. “When Status changes and if Status is To Review”. All we need is an action.

You’ll need to click on ‘Add Action’ and then select one of the available actions. We’ll go with ‘Update an Item’.

Choose the item (or more of them) you want updated when the task status changes. Let’s pick ‘Priority’ this time. Now we have a full sentence:

When Status changes and if Status is To Review, Change Priority.

When you’re done, click ‘Save Automation’. You’ll be able to view and edit your automation in the Manage section of the window, as well as turn it off and on, or delete it.
