Creating and Using Custom Templates

In Infinity, it’s possible to create and save your own custom templates. This allows you to create frameworks and systems that work for you the best, and then reuse them later on again and again, i.e. whenever you need them.

It’s possible to save an entire board as a template or just a single folder.

{primary} NOTE: In order to save templates, you will need to enable the Save as Template permission, which is available in Workspace permissions. Workspace owners and admins have this permission enabled by default.

How to Save Boards and Folders as Templates

If you want to save an entire board as a template, click on the three dots menu of one of your boards, and then choose Save as Template.

You can also save boards as templates if you head over to the Board Manager and click on Options.

If you’d like to save just a single folder as a template, click on the three dots next to the folder name, and again choose Save as Template.

The templates you save will look exactly like the original boards/folders and contain everything (items, attributes etc.) the original boards contained, except for members.

This means that, when a template is loaded into a board, only the owner of the board will be automatically added to it and you’ll need to add and assign other members from scratch. This is how all Infinity templates work at the moment.

How to Load Custom Templates

Loading your custom-made templates functions the same as loading any Infinity template.

When creating a board or a folder, choose the option “Load Template”. Afterwards, you will be redirected to the templates page, except that it will have two more menu items at the top: My Templates and if you have any, Shared Templates.

When you click on one of these options, you will be able to access the templates you’ve created or the templates that someone else shared with you.

You’ll also find your saved and shared templates in the dashboard sidebar.

How to View and Share Templates

To view your custom templates, you will need to click on My Templates in the left sidebar of your dashboard. In addition to viewing your templates, you’ll also be able to:

  • Open a single template page for each template,
  • Edit and share single template pages.

On the single template page, you’ll be able to do the following:

  • View the template title and description,
  • View the template cover image,
  • Preview the template,
  • Load the template.

On the edit and share single template page, you’ll get to:

  • Edit the template title and description,
  • Change the template cover image,
  • View and edit who the template is shared with.

When it comes to sharing your templates, you can share them both with people who have an Infinity account and those that don’t.

If they do have an Infinity account, they will receive an in-app notification and an email saying that you’ve shared a template with them.

If they don’t have an Infinity account, they will receive an email with a link that will take them to the register page. After the onboarding process, they will have a one-day trial for the created workspace and access to the template that you shared with them in My Templates/Shared Templates.
